Conclusion

Final positions for the season wound up being pretty good, despite missing one race (of seven) in each class through the year due to crashing or mechanical issues. I finished in the following positions:
Twins GTO – 3rd out of 22 racers
Amateur GTU – 8th out of 38 racers
Novice GTO – 5th out of 56 racers

Not too bad for a novice old guy, I reckon! I had so much fun this season. It’s risky, it’s expensive, and takes way too much of my time. But man, is it addictive. And I’ve met a ton of really cool people in the paddock. That may be the best part of all.

Will I do it again next year? Through the ups and downs of this first season, if I'd been asked that question, about half the time I would have said "No way!" and half the time I would have said "Hell yes!" But having done a few trackdays in the latter part of the season, I realized very clearly that trackdays, while awesome and fun, can never give the kind of rush that racing can, especially for a competitive guy like me. So, yes, at this point I would definitely say I'll be back out there again next season, probably running the Amateur and Twins classes I'm eligible for.

It's going to be a long winter!
